About Us
Preserving Heritage and Empowering the Artists of Rajasthan
Tara Sharma was a celebrated name in the world of Rajasthani folk art, widely admired for her mesmerizing Bhavai dance and her unwavering dedication to preserving cultural heritage. Through her powerful performances, she brought national and international recognition to Rajasthan’s traditional art forms and built meaningful connections with respected personalities, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
However, beyond the stage and applause, Tara Sharma witnessed a difficult reality — many gifted folk artists struggled to fulfill even their most basic needs such as food, education, and healthcare. Alongside her daughters, Madhu Sharma and Sarmila Sharma, she saw how widespread this hardship was within the artistic community.
Determined to create meaningful and lasting change, Madhu Sharma envisioned a platform that would not only preserve Rajasthan’s cultural traditions but also uplift and empower the artists behind them. From this vision and commitment, Kalavarnam was born — not merely as an organization, but as a mission to restore dignity, provide support, and ensure that the guardians of Rajasthan’s rich cultural legacy receive the recognition and opportunities they truly deserve.
